The only couple of things I feel could improve were the installation manuals and the plate storage pegs. The manuals have a few minor steps missing, so a friend of mine and I had to repeat a few steps during installation. But overall the manuals are ok and the steps are self-explanatory. The pegs for weight plate storage were difficult to tighten as the pegs themselves turn when you fasten the bolts. I had to apply my entire body weight to resist the pegs from rotating while my friend tightened the bolts. These were the only minor things that I wish were better. But overall, I love this machine and would definitely anyone to buy the X1, or the X2 if they had more space.
Only gripes would be the pull up attachment grips are a little to thick and can be slippery. Also, the instructions for assembly were very sparse although I was able to do it on my own over about 5 hours. Would help to have an impact drill and you will need to purchase what I believe is a 30 mm socket which required a trip to a Home Depot. A video would have been helpful.
Overall, excellent purchase. Very happy!
The product was delivered on time in a wooden crate with everything carefully wrapped and nothing was damaged in transit. I suggest getting a friend and a 24mm and 36mm socket wrench to assemble it, and double check that the rack is square and the crossbeam attachment goes on smoothly BEFORE installing the weight stacks.
The quality of the rack and cable pulley system is extremely high and the pulleys are beautifully smooth. The trolley attachments for the pulley arms fit well and (after adjusting the pulley system to remove excess tension) they move up and down smoothly. The stainless steel uprights look great. (I find myself popping down the gym every so often just to admire this machine!) It comes standard with a lot of attachments, all are lined with UHMW plastic to prevent your rack from getting scratched. While you can certainly find more premium attachments, the included ones are all perfectly functional and give you the opportunity to see which ones you actually use without spending a lot of extra money. I am 5'1"" so I have more than enough room for seated lat pulldowns but taller people might prefer the taller rack if they have the ceiling height. Being short, I find the lowest position of the pulley arms doesn't give me a lot of room to pull up from, but the included single-pulley attachment makes up for it, allowing me to set up a low pulley on one of the feet.
Maxum's customer service was extremely responsive and graciously answered all my questions throughout the process.
Overall, I am more than happy with my purchase. This product is extremely high quality and offers excellent value compared to other available options. For Canadians, this is also a great buy-local option. I highly recommend it!
It took me about 3-4 hours to assemble with a helper stepping in during a couple steps where it helps to have four hands. Be warned that you will need to have a 36mm socket and wrench on hand. Yes, 36mm.
Now assembled, the unit is absolutely solid and the pulleys are buttery smooth. Having the articulating arms at their widest settings allow for a cable cross that rivals commercial gyms. At 5’8, I get full range of motion for biceps curls at the lowest setting. Sitting down on the ground for seated rows at the lowest position is also fine (same with my wife at 5’6).
Only issue is I need to figure out how to get enough grip on the plate pegs to actually tighten the 36mm locking nuts adequately. It may require an impact gun.
Extremely happy with the purchase and my wife is actually ok with the purchase now that she’s had a chance to try it out. Bonus.
