Why choose a MAXUM squat or power rack
A squat or power rack is the centrepiece of any serious home gym. It’s where your heaviest lifts happen – squats, bench press, overhead press, deadlifts. Getting the right one matters more than any other equipment decision you’ll make.
Every MAXUM rack includes a Lat Machine, pull-up station, dip and knee raise station, and low row machine as standard. That’s the functionality of five to six separate pieces of equipment in one unit, all covered by a lifetime warranty.
Squat rack vs power rack — which one do you need?
This is the most common question home gym buyers ask. Here’s the honest answer:
- Squat rack (half rack): Two upright posts, open design, compact footprint. Easier to load the bar, better for smaller spaces. Best if you have limited room or prefer a more open training feel.
- Power rack (full cage): Four upright posts forming an enclosed cage. Spotter arms at every height mean you can push to failure alone with complete safety. Best for heavy lifting and solo training.
- Ceiling clearance: Most racks need at least 7ft. Check the product specs.
- Floor space: Squat rack minimum: 4x6ft. Power rack minimum: 6x8ft. Add extra space around the unit for loading and movement.
- Steel gauge: 11-gauge is commercial standard. MAXUM’s premium models use 3×3 11-gauge steel throughout.
